Bifurcation Analysis of a Plankton Model with Discrete Delay

چکیده

In this paper, a delayed plankton-nutrient interaction model consisting of phytoplankton, zooplankton and dissolved nutrient is considered. It is assumed that some species of phytoplankton releases toxin (known as toxin producing phytoplankton (TPP)) which is harmful for zooplankton growth and this toxin releasing process follows a discrete time variation. Using delay as bifurcation parameter, the stability of interior equilibrium point is investigated and it is shown that time delay can destabilize the otherwise stable non-zero equilibrium state by inducing Hopfbifurcation when it crosses a certain threshold value. Explicit results are derived for stability and direction of the bifurcating periodic solution by using normal form theory and center manifold arguments. Finally, outcomes of the system are validated through numerical simulations. Keywords—Plankton, Time delay, Hopf-bifurcation, Normal form theory, Center manifold theorem.

The Effect of Delays on Stability and Persistence in Plankton Models T

Recently, Beretta et al. [1] studied a chemostat-type model to simulate the growth of planktonic communities of unicellular algae in lakes, where the plankton feeds on a limiting nutrient supplied at a constant rate. They supposed that the limiting nutrient is partially recycled after the death of the organisms and they used a distributed delay to model the nutrient recycling in order to study ...

Dynamics of the interaction of plankton and planktivorous fish with delay

Abstract: This paper is devoted to the study of a plankton–fish ecosystem model. The model represents the interaction between phytoplankton, zooplankton, and fish with Holling II functional response consisting of carrying capacity and constant intrinsic growth rate of phytoplankton. It is observed that if the carrying capacity of phytoplankton population crosses a certain critical value, the sy...

Mathematical analysis of a nutrient–plankton system with delay

A mathematical model describing the interaction of nutrient-plankton is investigated in this paper. In order to account for the time needed by the phytoplankton to mature after which they can release toxins, a discrete time delay is incorporated into the system. Moreover, it is also taken into account discrete time delays which indicates the partially recycled nutrient decomposed by bacteria af...
